Problem
There has been an increase in lithium-ion-related fires, such as the e-bike that caught fire on the TTC in 2024. The Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council is seeking to raise awareness and encourage prevention.
The site must:
Provide resources on lithium-ion battery fire risks for 430+ fire safety organizations, services and the general public.
Engage Ontarians and make it easy to navigate, learn and download information
Provide information in plain language with an intuitive navigation and modern look
Be bilingual, accessible, mobile-responsive and SEO-optimized
Design
The client preferred a clean, friendly look that presented information in an accessible and approachable manner.
Impact
Our team successfully developed the microsite for Charged for LiFE. The site presents crucial information on charging, tampering, and disposal in a clear, accessible format, making safety resources more readily available to the public.
Lessons learned

The challenges of a tight budget
Due to the project's tight budget, team members were given a limited amount of time to work. Time had to be carefully divided to ensure that the microsite was completed on time and within budget.

Communication with the client
I learned how to properly engage with clients during presentations and via email. Adapting to their feedback, such as their desired look, is essential to designing a successful product that meets clients' needs.
As an intern, working on Charged for LiFE allowed me to develop both technical and client-facing skills. I prepared Figma files for web development, and improved my communication skills by collaborating with team members and project managers. Additionally, I had the opportunity to present a design concept directly to the client, further improving my confidence in professional settings.
This experience not only strengthened my technical abilities but also taught me the value of effective teamwork in delivering impactful projects.
